A Nature Club for Kids by Make It Slow

Location: Kotecki Memorial Park, Lower Burrell
Dates: Fridays, July 10-August 21
Time: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM (open play afterward is always welcome)
Ages: Recommended for ages 5–10 (3–4 welcome with a supervising adult)*

We ask that kids be potty trained (or have an adult present) and be comfortable in outdoor play. Parents are welcome to stay or drop off, according to their child's comfort level.

Club Overview

Wild + Rooted is a 4-week outdoor experience for kids to connect with nature through hands-on activities, guided exploration, and open-ended play. Each session includes a nature craft or activity followed by slow, unstructured time to explore and play outdoors no matter the weather.

Weekly Themes:

July 10: Insect scavenger hunt, create a nature journal and use seeds and dried beans to create a mosaic in air dry clay

July 24: Create seed balls with soil, clay and native seeds to create an explosion of flowers at home. Create nature names with foraged items.

August 7: Hike and search for evidence of animal homes, collect items to make a human-sized bird nest

August 21: BOAT RACES! Observe how items sink or float in the creek and create rafts from foraged items

Pricing

• $30/class for full 4-week registration ($120 total, $20 savings) Families can get “buy one get one half off” discount for full registrations of siblings.  

• $35 per individual class (as space allows)

What to Bring

• Clothes that can get messy

• Water bottle

• Sunscreen/insect repellent if needed

• Towel & change of clothes for creek play

• Snack

• Optional: binoculars, small basket for collecting

When you enter the park, turn into the right parking lot. We will meet at the pavilion across the walking bridge by the creek.
